Extended Notes: Politics of Performance, Elaborating Projection is a talk by scholar Yarden Stern about diaspora, queerness, and performance in Israel/Palestine. Focusing on the work of three performance artists, Arkadi Zaides, Ita Segev, and Hadar Ahuvia, Stern will present a chapter of his dissertation that highlights the use of media projection in performance as a metaphor and extension for the diasporic experience. Delving into the complex and poetic uses of projection, Stern will discuss how these performances confront erasure of the past, precarity of the present, and virtuality of the future.

Yarden Stern is a PhD candidate at New York University’s Department of Performance Studies, where he completed his MA. He received his BA from Goldsmith’s University in Media & Sociology. His dissertation research is focused on the issues of borders, queerness and disruption in Israel/Palestine. He also serves as the public programing coordinator for the academic journal Women & Performance.
