Curator Chen Tamir gave a survey of the history of Israeli art with a special focus on the social, political, technological, and economic circumstances that have shaped the country and its art. Special attention was placed on how the Occupation, technology, and the liberalizing of the economy in the 1980s and ’90s spurred developments in the mass media and visual culture that have so greatly affected video art since. The lecture was followed by screenings of videos by artists Boaz Arad and Miki Kratsman, Yael Bartana, Nir Evron, Dor Guez, Raafat Hattab, Itamar Rose, Ruti Sela, and Doron Solomons.
