Breathing is a routine and regular act, but also vital and precious to our survival and directly impacted by the environment. We struggle to sustain and preserve clean air, as the air we breathe can be polluted, or poisonous. Sari Carel discussed her interdisciplinary research into breath as a lived experience, and entry point to talk about ecological issues and air quality in New York City and beyond. In a talk titled “Breath Biome – An air, sound and drawing project,” she shared her recent public sound installation in City Hall Park (supported by Artis and commissioned by More Art) as well as a new multi channel sound work based on the diagrams, graphs, and other visualization methods used to delineate research on the uses and abuses of air.
Presented as part of Artis’ breakfast program series.
