Matan Israeli, co-founder of Muslala, presents a talk titled “Collective Art Practice in a Complex Urban Setting.” The community of artists, activists, and craftspeople that make up Muslala have been facilitating public art projects and sustainability initiatives across East and West Jerusalem since 2009. Today, they reside on a rooftop in the Clal Building in the City Center of Jerusalem, where they have a garden, artist studios where they develop earth work projects, and host other community activities. Israeli discussed how the collective addresses the neighborhood’s needs and audiences, as well as the landscape of contemporary art in Jerusalem, and the relationship between economies, society, and the environment more broadly.
Presented as part of Artis’ emerging artists talks series.
