In The Cultural Question, Nevet Yitzhak presents a collection of ancient and forgotten objects inspired by Israel’s prototype museum, a wunderkammer (cabinet of curiosities) founded by Boris Schatz in 1912 to educate students at the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design. The work reexamines the Orientalist approach Schatz and his contemporaries used to construct a “new” art and culture in Israel, and will be presented in a solo exhibition at the Center for Contemporary Art in Tel Aviv.
