Curated by Laurence Sillars, Fast’s solo exhibition presented new and recent works, multi-channel video installations that blur the boundaries between documentary, dramatization and fantasy. Undermining the divide between reality and representation and between document and artifice, Fast’s works interrogate the potential truthfulness of images. This exhibition included several recent and new installations, including 5,000 Feet is the Best (2011), a 30-minute film underpinned by an interview Fast conducted with a former operator of US Predator drones that weaves together the operator’s account of his life and work along with scenes depicting crimes in and around Las Vegas. CNN Concatenated (2002) is an 18-minute-long video collage reconstructing footage from CNN to form a disconcerting poetic narrative with an underlying sense of threat, Everything that Rises Must Converge (2013), and a new commission, Spring (2016).
The exhibition was co-produced with and traveled to Jeu de Paume in Paris and KUNSTEN Museum of Modern Art, Aalborg, Denmark.
