Overview

Artis’ Residency Partnership Initiative supports artists from Israel through fully funded opportunities at leading residency programs internationally. This initiative launched in the Fall of 2023, and is designed to create safe and meaningful conditions for artistic development, dialogue, and exchange in a moment of profound uncertainty. Through this program, Artis partners with organizations in cities such as New York, Los Angeles, Berlin, and Lagos, offering artists the opportunity to engage in residency environments that value experimentation, process, care, and curiosity. Each residency provides artists with time, space, and resources to focus on their practice, explore new contexts, and build connections across disciplines and geographies.

Guidelines and Eligibility Requirements

Residencies are intended for artists at various stages of their careers — emerging, mid-career, and established — who are committed to challenging conventions, engaging critically with the world around them, and expanding the language of contemporary art. Current and past artist participants are viewable here.

Applications are reviewed by an international jury, and final decisions are made by each partner residency in consultation with Artis. The selection process reflects Artis’ commitment to freedom of expression and to cultivating opportunities that are artist-centered, inclusive, and independent of political or religious affiliations. Please read the Frequently Asked Questions for a complete list of eligibility requirements and information on how to apply.

Practical Information and Program Details

Residency locations vary from urban environs to retreat-style programs, with artists matched to residencies based on individual application details, availability, and interests. Residency durations vary and are determined in advance by the host institution in coordination with Artis. While some residencies accommodate families, others are intended for individual participants only; full details, including program dates and eligibility, are provided in the open call. Applicants are expected to review the residency structure and requirements carefully and apply only to opportunities that align with their availability.

Artists selected to participate in the program receive a studio space as well as residency programming and support free of cost. Artis provides artists with a travel grant toward round-trip travel to/from the residency. Stipends to offset living expenses are available for a limited number of the residencies. Artists are responsible for all other planning costs associated with the residency.

Application Process and Timeline

Applications are accepted from July 28 through August 27, 2025 for residencies taking place in 2026 and 2027. Please refer to the application for details about which residencies are part of the open call. Apply online here.
