Curated by Kathrin Rhomberg, the sixth edition of the Berlin Biennale revolves around the question of whether and how art can make disparate realities perceivable and prompt us to participate in them reflectively in them. Showing work by international artists such as Petrit Halilaj, Danh Vo, and Marion von Osten, the biennial included Avi Mograbi’s video Details 2 & 3 (2004), shot in an Israeli military post and reflecting the stress and intensity of the place; Nir Evron’s 16mm film Echo (2008), which uses archival footage from a 1985 protest against the closing of a cooperative textile factory in Haifa; and the video Beyond Guilt #1 (2003) by Ruti Sela and Maayan Amir, part of their Beyond Guilt video trilogy (2003–05) in which the artists explored issues of Israeli identity through the entanglement of sex and the structural violence of the state.
