U.F.O. (Untitled Folding Object) 1329

Grantees
Reuven Israel
KinoSaito Art Center, Verplanck, NY
March 8–May 18, 2025
Exhibition Grant

Consisting of a site-specific installation and a series of related drawings, Reuven’s exhibition continues his exploration of architecture and the layered histories of sacred spaces. The exhibition features a tessellated sculpture that responds to the original architecture of the building as a former Catholic school. Made of 1329 small birch elements laminated with colored PVC edge-banding, the sculpture has the potential to unfold, dramatically extending into the gallery space in countless configurations. Drawing inspiration from a diverse range of sources—spanning indigenous weaving, science fiction, video games and early modernism—visitors may walk around,  creating a dynamic field that solicits introspection.
