Artist Bio
Utilizing her preferred medium of natural charcoal, Tigist Yoseph Ron focuses on intimate portraiture and psychologically charged renderings of familial and social groups, as well as scenes of females in their roles at the center of domestic environments. Generally beginning by drawing a person with whom she is close, their specific identities become obscured as her process continues, heightening emphasis on more formal relationships and movement and rhythm within the frame. Her solo exhibitions include 2020’s, The White Paper is Black Within, at Tel Aviv Museum of Art, and two Braverman Gallery presentations (2022, 2023). Tigist has participated in several duo and group exhibitions in Israel and abroad. She is a graduate of Bezalel Academy of Art and Design’s Visual Communication Department in Jerusalem, and studied drawing and painting with fellow artists Zvika Lachman (2006–16), and David Nipo (2018–22). Over the past two decades, she has also designed, illustrated, and taken photographs for numerous entities. Tigist emigrated to Israel from Ethiopia in 1984, and she lives and works in Ra’anana. www.tigistyosephron.com
