“The Romantic Trail and the Concrete House” was Sharon Ya'ari’s first solo exhibition in Germany. Ya'ari created a new series of photographs and a sculpture that explore the atmosphere and intellectual history of two of the museum’s sites: Haus Lange and Haus Esters. Erected between 1927–30 by the architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Haus Lange and Haus Esters are iconic structures in the history of New Objectivity architecture in Germany. The starting point of Ya'ari’s photographic exploration is the connection between the ideas of European modernism and the effort to implement them in the young Israeli state. Using a variety of cameras, the new photographs also reference the history of photography and the role of images in the digital world. The exhibition as accompanied by an illustrated bilingual catalogue in German and English.
