A group exhibition inspired by the study of trauma, “The Myth of Normal” explores the definition of ‘normalcy’ in human health and the societal expectations that it prescribes, referencing the eponymously titled book by Gabor and Daniel Maté. Artist Itamar Gov presents two significant works that contemplate the implications of treating the human body and mind as areas for technological conquest and perfection. Olympia (CER.810) calls attention to the brain as an organ that shapes thought and identity, and to its inability to be replicated or replaced. The Nursery, composed of twenty elements suspended from the ceiling, evokes both cocoons and mummies, drawing visual connections between birth and decay. The installation represents a liminal zone that is neither purely a beginning nor an end, but a continuous process of becoming and deteriorating.
