"The Moor’s Pavane from a Female Perspective” is a new work by the José Limón Dance Company that engages in dialogue with new work by artist Hilla Ben Ari in collaboration with Dante Puleio, Artistic Director of the José Limón Dance Foundation. The piece reconstructs “The Moor’s Pavane” (1949), a significant work by choreographer and dancer José Limón, which is a choreographic adaptation of Shakespeare’s Othello. A multidisciplinary project that creates new connections across visual art and dance, the new work features two female dancers dancing live on stage, and two additional characters rendered through recorded video projections. Shakespearean gender roles are reshaped, rendering the theatrical plot in a new perspective.
The piece is staged at the Joyce Theater in New York City.
