Gil Yefman’s large-scale installation, Tumtum, is a massive, colorfully knit work produced on site at the Jewish Museum Berlin for the exhibition “Sex. Jewish Positions,” which travels to the Jewish Museum Amsterdam following its Berlin presentation. The centerpiece of the large-scale group exhibition that explores the many meanings of sexuality in Judaism, Tumtum is inspired by the Talmudic category that refers to a person whose gender is unknown. It speaks to the viewpoint of those who are outcast and condemned, suggesting a radical concept wherein the Tumtum lives inside us all.
