Artist Bio
Multidisciplinary artist Ruti de Vries lives and works in Tel Aviv. In her practice, she incorporates elements of sculpture, painting, collage, sewing, drawing, graphic design, and animation, drawing equally from ancient, indigenous, and outsider art and from the worlds of fashion and interstellar space design. Ruti approaches her work with an ad-hoc attitude wherein ornamentation, pattern and symmetry become central elements. She creates constant tensions between two-dimensionality and volume, the graphic and sculptural, and sign and presence, to explore mythologies, superstitions, sorcery, superheroes, obsessions, and clichés with alternative aesthetics and cultural possibilities. Her recent solo presentations include, Wormhole, Nahum Gutman Museum of Art, Tel Aviv (2023); Father Earth Mother Sky, PRÁM Studio, Prague (2021), among others. Ruti holds a BEd from Beit Berl College, HaMidrasha, and an MFA from Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Jerusalem. www.rutidevries.com
