Artist Bio
Ruti de Vries is a multidisciplinary artist living and working in Tel Aviv. In her practice, she incorporates elements of sculpture, painting, collage, sewing, drawing, graphic design, and animation, drawing equally from ancient, indigenous, and outsider art as well as the worlds of fashion and interstellar space design. De Vries approaches her work with an ad-hoc attitude wherein ornamentation, pattern, and symmetry become central elements. She creates constant tensions in her work between two-dimensionality and volume, and graphic and sculptural elements. Exploring these dynamics in her practice, De Vries engages with topics spanning mythologies, superstitions, and clichés. Her recent solo presentations include “Wormhole” at the Nahum Gutman Museum of Art, Tel Aviv (2023) and “Father Earth Mother Sky” at PRÁM Studio, Prague (2021), among others. De Vries holds a BEd from HaMidrasha Faculty of Arts, Beit Berl, and an MFA from Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem.
