As part of “Rīvus | 23rd Biennale of Sydney” artist Gal Weinstein presents a liquid installation made from coffee and other organic materials that mimics the shape of a land area in the Murray-Darling Basin in Australia. The installation evolves over time, as mold grows on the artwork in response to the changing environmental conditions. “Rivus | the 23rd Biennale of Sydney” focuses on waterways and the ecologies they sustain, representing historic and contemporary forms of community engagement. The artworks featured in the Biennale explore topics such as sustainability, collaboration, ancestral technologies, and sustainable methods of co-existence, and are accompanied by a series of experimental and research-driven programs.
