Artist Bio
Tal Engelstein is a performance and installation artist based in Tel Aviv. Working in different media and materials, Tal creates works that explore extreme physical and mental spaces. His installations are always in a process of transformation – from solid to liquid, from alive to dead, from awake to asleep. For Tal, the artwork is “an event which encapsulates anomaly.” Both the creation of the work and the encounter of the work with the audience represent a deviation from a normal scenario.
Tal presented his work in solo shows at the CCA Tel Aviv-Yafo (2024, Israel), Hamidrasha Gallery (2022, Tel Aviv, Israel), Petite Gallery (2019, Paris, France), Bloom Award - Dusseldorf Art Fair (2019, Dusseldorf, Germany) and Artist Unlimited (2019, Bielefeld, Germany), among others. His work was featured in group shows at the Tel Aviv Museum (2021, Israel), Villa Belleville (2021, Paris, France), Ashdod Museum (2020, Israel), and Fresh Paint (2017, Tel Aviv, Israel). Tal is the recipient of The Ilana Elovic Prize, Young Artist Prize, Mifal Hapais Grant, Independent Artists Foundation, Maccabee Dream Project, and the America-Israel Prize. He participated in residencies at the Villa Belleville (Paris, France), Artist Unlimited (Bielefeld, Germany), and Cité Internationale des Arts (Paris, France).
Tal graduated from the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture (USA, 2018). He received his BFA at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design (Israel, 2015), and participated as an Exchange Student at SAIC (USA, 2014).
