Artist Bio
Nirit Takele is a contemporary figurative painter whose work explores themes of heritage, migration, and identity. She was born in Ethiopia and immigrated to Israel during Operation Solomon in 1991. Takele’s bold, color-saturated paintings depict communities of Ethiopian descent from Israel with sculptural figures and dynamic compositions that merge classical European influences with modernist abstraction.
Takele’s work has been exhibited internationally, including at Zeitz MOCAA (Cape Town), The Negev Museum of Art (Be’er Sheva), and Addis Fine Art (London). Takele is the recipient of the Young Artist Award from Israel’s Ministry of Culture and Sports, Sotheby’s ‘Under the Hammer’ Prize, and an Artis grant recipient. Her work is held in major collections, including the Israel Museum, Tel Aviv Museum of Art, The Bank of Israel, and Shenkar College. Takele is a graduate of Shenkar College’s Department of Multidisciplinary Art (2015).
