“Noa Eshkol: Rules, Theory, & Passion,” the first major retrospective exhibition of Noa Eshkol’s (1924–2007) work in the Nordic region, presents her varied oeuvre in which dance, semiotics, and textile art converge. Opening at Oslo Kunstforening in Oslo, Norway on August 28, 2021 and traveling to Norrköping Art Museum in Norrköping, Sweden, where it is on view from March 26 through October 2, 2022, the exhibition provides a chronological view that reflects Eshkol’s work as an artist, choreographer (or composer, as she herself preferred to identify), dance theorist, and interdisciplinary research collaborator. Showcasing a wide range of works, including multiple tapestries, drawings, photographs, and films, the exhibition also features varied archival material contextualizing her work through the inclusion of books, notes, photographs, and other ephemera.
