Nelly Agassi’s solo exhibition at the Chicago Cultural Center is a site-specific installation set across the three monumental galleries of the Center.
Rendered through Agassi’s “biography of site”―an artistic strategy in which the artist develops a personal relationship with the past, present, and future of a location―the galleries are treated as malleable material with which she can sculpt. Within this methodology, Agassi creates a series of interventions that allude to the ways in which gender is inscribed into architecture.
