Curated by Maayan Sheleff, “Motherland” is Ruth Patir’s first solo show in Europe. At its heart is the new work Motherland, a 3D video documentary that reimagines fertility goddesses from ancient Judean times as real-life mothers, starting with the artist’s own mother. The work, accompanied by 3D-printed sculptures and multi-screen installations, deals with the lineage of gender representation, the relations between reproductive rights and state politics, and the place these themes take in the contemporary technological and digital world. Through her work, Patir engages in questions about the intersections of gender, care, technology, and labor.
