Marking artist Maayan Elyakim’s first solo exhibition in the U.S., “Game of Goose” presents a series of site-specific installation works that engage with the physical and narrative properties of the Neutra VDL House in Los Angeles. Designed by architect Richard Neutra, the Neutra VDL House is a National Historic Landmark that served as a dwelling and workspace for the architect, his family, guests, and employees.
Developed during Elyakim’s residency at the house, the artworks presented derive from its distinctive environment. In an intricate interplay between interior and exterior spaces, as well as light and reflections, Elyakim stages a series of encounters that respond to Neutra’s notable architectural designs, utilizing a diverse range of materials and visual strategies. The exhibition draws its name from the historic board game and explores movement, chance, and shifting mental states, transforming the modernist residence into a dynamic space for reflection.
