Maria Saleh Mahameed’s first solo exhibition in Greece presents a selection of works that delve into the layers of identity, memory, and the lived experiences of a Palestinian artist who was raised in Umm el-Fahem in Israel by her Ukrainian mother and Arab father. Maria wields charcoal as her primary medium, creating large scale compositions dominated by black markings and populated by personal and cultural symbols. Each stroke, smudge, and gesture bears intimate witness to the artist's physical presence and embodied knowledge. The deliberate traces of rubbing, smoothing, and smearing construct a new narrative that bridges personal testimony with social and political realities. In her work, Maria articulates connections between women and land, as well as notions of ancestral belonging, displacement, loss, and hope.
