This three-channel video installation by artist Ofri Cnaani is the latest in the artist’s ongoing investigation of cultural institutions in the age of digital production. Ruminating on the consequences of a catastrophic fire that demolished the collection of Brazil’s National Museum in 2018, the work looks into concepts of corporeality and digital existence. Contemplating how historically valuable objects were wiped off the face of the earth without leaving any digital trace, this multi-media work acts as a “digital séance,” where the artist uses the digital remains of the National Museum as sites of intervention.
Following its presentation at SUBTE, the project traveled to the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo (MAC) in Santiago, Chile (March-June, 2023), and Artis provided a travel grant to Ofri Cnaani for this iteration.
