Curated by Jess Wilcox, the works by the twelve artists included in “In Practice: Under Foundations” responded to the exhibition series’ location in SculptureCenter’s basement through a shared interest in what lies beneath the surface—the repressed, the discarded, the roots, or the source. Ben Hagari’s work produced for the show, Potter's Will, was comprised of two parts that took SculptureCenter’s basement as their visual and conceptual point of departure. The video depicts a potter’s workshop in which a potter is seen shaping a clay form while gravity becomes inverted and the room begins to spin.
