Consisting of 26 bronze casts of a Mediterranean plant categorized as a “weed” and “pioneer plant,” Hora by Ella Littwitz investigates the social-political elements of her locality in Israel and the surrounding region. The title of the work refers to the Israeli folk dance, the “Hora,” which is identified with the social and agricultural pioneer movement that founded modern Israel. Coupled together, the plant castings and the title form a poignant reflection on history and its relationship to contemporary society in Israel.
