The Aichi Triennial is an international arts festival initiated and organized by Aichi prefectural government in Japan. Featuring contemporary and performing arts by 122 artists from Japan and abroad, as well as opera performances and a public program including screenings, symposiums, artist talks, and so on, the second edition of the Triennial was curated by artistic director Taro Igarashi. Ariel Schlesinger presented Untitled (bicycle piece) (2008), a playful sculpture involving a bicycle wheel and a small fire, another in a series of poetic, playful works refitting and reimagining everyday objects. Nira Pereg presented Sabbath (2008), a video work that challenged the viewer with the notion that preserving homogeneity can in fact cause the exclusion of others.
