The performative research group Public Movement debut a new work marking the culmination of their residency at Kunstler*innenhaus Mousontrum in Frankfurt, organized by Artis in collaboration with the DAAD Artists-in-Berlin Program.

As One. New Action for Frankfurt marks the 100th anniversary of the Workers’ Olympics, which first took place in Frankfurt in 1925 and was conceived as an egalitarian alternative to the Olympic Games. The project engages with the premise of this historic event—a vision of society striving for equality, post-national companionship, and peace. Acknowledging the Workers’ Olympics as an invitation for men and women to embody a cultural and political message, Public Movement asks, how do these values materialize in the body? How can they be made real in today’s world?

During the performance, six Public Movement members navigate the delicate intersections of strength and vulnerability, discipline and obedience, play and rivalry, ideology and its dissemination through the body. The project is both homage and inquiry, a public exercise taking place in real time, and an invitation to commemorate while practicing doubt. The performance emerges from the need to come together: to train to be a flexible society with acrobatic minds, agile, balanced, and primed for the struggle ahead.

The project is initiated and supported by the German Federal Cultural Foundation and Artis.
