Curated by Andrew Renton, the first edition of new biennial Art TLV brought together international and Israeli artists and curators with Tel Aviv’s bourgeoning contemporary art scene, Bauhaus architecture, and cosmopolitan culture. The biennial was titled “Open Plan Living,” named after an architectural concept advocating the creation of new spaces while breaking symbolic and hierarchical barriers. It explored Tel Aviv’s overtly modernist histories, through its architecture, across various venues, including a major exhibition at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art as well as a program with more than sixty artists along Nachalat Binyamin street, orchestrated by curators and artists Michal Helfman, Irit Hemo, Hadas Kedar, Ohad Pishof, Doron Rabina, and Alona Roda.
