For her solo exhibition at Cultuurcentrum Strombeek, Aysha E Arar translates one of her recent paintings, titled Al Farisa, into a musical composition which she performs live in the exhibition space. The new song weaves the artist’s voice with field recordings made in nature, and is performed by a group of local female musicians. Additionally, five monumental paintings and a set of small drawings are on view. Experienced together, the visual and sonic components of the show amount to a subtle, yet powerful, message about contemporary political realities.
