In recent years, artist Nelly Agassi has developed a concept that she calls “biography of the site,” where a physical location is treated as a material to be sculpted. For her first solo exhibition in Latvia, Nelly continues her research into this idea, transforming the exhibition space into a reflection on Latvia’s history of shifting borders and cultural transformations. During a week-long research trip to Latvia, Nelly collected visual impressions and engaged with traces of historical presence that she encountered while exploring the city. These observations and gestures appear in her site-specific installation, which unfolds across two gallery spaces. Within this methodology, the site-specific intervention becomes a way to reimagine voids, and to infuse physical and historical absences with meaning.
