Thalia Hoffman, in collaboration with Michal Samama, create an iteration of Hoffmann’s performance To Serve You, a six-hour dinner for 15–20 guests. The performance explores the connection between food, rules, law, nationality, and security through the power relations between the guest and host, feeder and eater. In an artist talk, Hoffmann discusses themes and questions that are at the core of the performance, including elements of free will and control, agency and submission. This performance of To Serve You is organized by the artist-run initiative La Cocina and presented at Framer Framed. It was initially intended to be featured in A Matter of (In)digestions, a festival exploring socio-political, historical, and cultural intersections implied by the idea of consumption, but was postponed, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
