“Mia” is a new sculpture and sound installation by Zac Hacmon developed in collaboration with three individuals who are asylum seekers and reside at the RDJ Refugee Shelter in New York City, where the artist is a volunteer. Through a long-term series of workshops centered on healing and dialogue, the group created an audio play together based on their individual stories and experiences. The final multi-channel audio play emanates from the sculptures in the Mia installation at Locust Projects, placing the viewer between architectural sculptures and human voices, and inviting intimacy and reflection.
