Sharon Ya’ari: New Works is the artist’s first solo exhibition in Germany. Ya’ari will create a new series of photographs and a sculpture that explores the atmosphere and intellectual history of two of the museum’s sites: Haus Lange and Haus Esters. Erected between 1927 and 1930 by the architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Haus Lange and Haus Esters are iconic structures in the history of New Objectivity architecture in Germany. Interested in the ideas of European modernism and the effort to implement them in Israel, Ya’ari traces the legacy of modernist architecture as a way to comment on marginalia, and the relics of everyday life that are subject to the processes of decay and transience. He will use a variety of cameras for the new photography work, referencing the history of photography and the role of the image in the digital world.
