In this project, Fatma Shanan Dery collaborated with youth in her home village of Julis on a defiant performative act. They spread Oriental carpets on rooftops, streets and highways, disrupting the day-to-day routine of the village. A drone documented the action from a bird’s eye view, where participants are assimilated into the larger texture of the image.
Shanan Dery created a video documenting the collaborative work and process with participating teens, as well as their take on the project, providing a glimpse into the lives and thoughts of young Druzes in Israel. The project was presented in a solo exhibition at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art.
