In 2014 Artis supported the participation of artist Benni Efrat in Other Primary Structures, a two-part sculpture exhibition that featured work of over 25 artists from Latin America, Asia, Africa, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe that explored the myriad international manifestations of reduced and abstract geometric sculpture in the 1960s. Half a century later, Other Primary Structures responded to its predecessor, Primary Structures: Younger American and British Sculptors, by examining the full global reach of this groundbreaking movement via artists who were simultaneously working in similar modes around the world, but who until now had not received significant attention in the United States. Presented in two parts, Other Primary Structures was on view from March 14 – August 3, 2014. The first part of the exhibition titled Others 1, examines work created between 1960 and 1967, while Others 2, presents work created between 1967 and 1970, some of which was directly influenced by the 1966 Primary Structures exhibition at the Jewish Museum.
